During the last decades, the debate has intensified in our country as well on the difficult legal and ethical issues that arise when doctors are asked to make decisions on whether or not to continue the therapeutic support of their patients, who are tormented by unbearable pain during incurable diseases, with no hope of a meaningful life expectancy, or are dependent on machines, having annihilated mental function.

The members of the Laboratory for the Study of Medical Law and Bioethics of the Faculty of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – after thorough discussions – came to the following proposals for the amendment of the current legislation, which are contained in the 1st Opinion of the Laboratory.
